Great addition to the series
This is the 22nd book in the VI Warshawski series. I recommend reading the books in order.
After an incident which involved the death of a student of her boyfriend, Vic is in a funk. When a roommate of her niece goes missing in Kansas when they are all there, she decides to get out of bed and help out. She finds the missing woman in a house used for parties, high on drugs. She saves her but later finds a dead body in the house as well. Vic is a suspect in both incidents and is hired by the daughter of another suspect to investigate.
This is usual for VI books. She stumbles into something instead of just receiving a new case from a client. That doesnt hurt the books though. This is a good whodunnit for people that like JD Robb or Lisa Regan.
Because of the funk she is in at the beginning, the book starts off with a lot less energy than other books in this series. It took me a little longer than usual to get into it but after about a hundred pages the speed of the story picks up.
It turns out to be a story full of webs of history woven into a crime in current day setting. Since it plays in Kansas I did miss some of the regular characters from the books. All in all I recommend
