Lezersrecensie

This book gave me nightmares, made me cry and left me very unsettled. But it was worth it

Before you start: this is book six in a series, if you haven't read book 5 don't read this review.

As with all Chloe Walshes Boys of Tommen books, we go back in time. We start again in 1991 when Hugh and Lizzie are like 4. They become friends and fall in love. From the previous books you already know that Lizzie's sister killed herself and what Hugh's best friend Gibs' brother did.
What we didn't yet know is that Lizzie has a mental disorder and that Mark, Gibs stepbrother, also molested her.
We continue in years, with the love growing but also the illness making Lizzie spiral and how Hugh tries to help her and hold on to their love.

First a warning: this book contains very disturbing elements of sexual abuse, child abuse and self harm. I haven't read a book before that made it feel so raw and real. I really gave me nightmares. And I read quite explicit thrillers...
This is therefore a book not for the faint hearted and since it is only half the story, like with Chloe Walshes other books, you will not be relieved after finishing.

It is however a strong story, you want to keep reading and I am rooting for the couple. Hopefully, we will be rewarded for our patience and perserverance with the next book. This book could have been a 100 pages less, sometime it is a bit dragging but that may also be because you know the stories from the previous books that are still to be innertwined with this story. Some parts you already 'know', just from other perspectives. I recommend reading this book when the next one is out, just so you can continue the story. I now have to be patient and that is not my strong suit.
