Lezersrecensie
Moderne versie met een heerlijke Gossip Girl Vibe !
First of all, I haven't read Anna Karenina - OOPS! The reason I wanted to have this book, is the bright pink and goldish cover. I really fell in love with it.
This was supposed to be a light read for me - however the first 50 pages took me longer than anticipated. Getting to know all who's involved and nicknames tied to them, was a bit more demanding :).
But .... when Vronsky got introduced to the mix .... I was hooked!
This very modern (brands, lingo and references are so 2019) story about a group of 'friends' has you going through rage, uncomprehension, rooting for love, sad cries and su much more. Even though we are talking about rich upper class and PoC perspectives - I felt fully immersed and want to know more about their stories.
I did have one issue with this book - even though some of the main characters are Korean, all characters were replaced by the crew from Gossip Girl. Chuck Bass- Vronsky is coming for you!
Some of the quotes in the book that pulled my heartstrings -
- "Alexia, I'm not saying no because I don't want to go. I'm saying no because it isn't right"
" She really needed to leave because she ahd no idea what she might say or do if she didn't. It was like the barn doors had been thrown open and all the horses were running free, trying to escape a terrible fire"
"When they opened the tent flap door, they saw the ground was covered in two inches of snow. ..., so ... picked her up and carried her across the yard, one pair of footprints in the snow displaying their newfound union."
This was a great relaxing read, where you either love or hate the characters and where some twists are very obvious and some are so unexpected that they seem unrealistic (which is the only real downside of this book - as some 'unexpected friendships' would be very unlikely in the real world).
I am not sure if I want to read the next installment, if they plan on having one- as the story I loved the most had a solid ending and I am not wondering what would happen to them next.
