Magical and real!
Joni feels lost in her job. She has to write a new song, but her brain won't cooperate. Her mother's been diagnosed with dementia and everything has been falling apart. She decides to go back home to be with her mother and her family. Suddenly, she hears a melody in her head and a man's voice. He calls himself Sasha and he too hears the melody. It seems like he's the key to break her writer's block.
It's not a secret that I've become a fan of Poston's work. It all started with The Seven Year Slip and since then I've been obsessed.
Sounds Like Love felt like coming home and that's so weird to say, because it's about grief, burnout and feeling lost. Exactly the things I struggle with, so it felt, in a way, good to read about that. I felt seen. And the thing about feeling seen is that Poston made that the foundation of this story. Poston does this beautifully.
This story isn't about fixing each other. Both Joni and Sasha feel lost, but they won't ever try to change each other. They see each other and understand each other. I loved that so, so much. I loved how they found each other and calmed each other's mind. Like two souls coming home. And yes, I am a sucker for these kind of romance stories, but this was done so beautifully.
The setting of the story fit perfectly; a charming small town with lovely characters. It was so much fun to get to know them all. Besides, Joni's parents own a music venue and it fit the story wonderfully. The music is like a thread keeping this story together and I had a blast getting to know every song.
This book was so whimsical, warm and emotional. I would lie if I said that I haven't cried. Because I did. Big time. It was so extremely relatable but also unfair. I wanted to scream at the world, I wanted to give all the characters a hug, but yet, everything that happened fit the story so well. So would I change something? Absolutely not. Would I read this story again and still feel all there is to feel? Yes.
Sounds Like Love broke me apart, put me back together and gave me a massive hug. This was such a real book, but at the same time so magical. I still think about it and I think this story won't leave me for a while.
Massive thank you to Penguin USA and Lees Bol for this proof in exhange for an honest opinion!
