Slow burn, banter and an island
We follow Emma and Justin who both suffer from the same "curse". Anyone they break up with finds The One in the person they date right after Emma of Justin. They come up with the idea to date eachother to cancel eachothers curse out. When they inevitably break up they should find their special someone in the next person they date. Together they set the rules on how the "curing the curse" plan works. Since they don't live in the same city and they both have some serious baggage their contact starts as texting and phonecalls. Emma is a travelling nurse and decides to take a chance, she convinces her best friend Maddy to skip on their next asignment to Hawai and go to where Justin lives.
But once they meet eachother in person they get hit by the lovetruck. What started out as banter and over the phone fun turns into something more.
How will they handle their budding feelings for eachother, the baggage they both have and the agreement they made. Four dates, one Kiss and a breakup.
Just for the summer is a fun read but tackles some serious topics. Fostercare, PTSD, neglect, death, imprisonment and having to deal with mentally unstable people. The writer did a great job creating a fun romance story but also kept it real. The unique way the writer describes Emma's coping mechanisms and the level of empathy she has despite the way she grew up is written beautifully. This was a great book i would definitely recommend to annyone who likes keeping romance boks realistic.
