I have been called quiet my whole life. When I was a child, I was placed in a classroom filled with extroverts. All my friends were extroverts. It wasn’t really ideal for me. I didn’t get the time and things I needed as an introvert.

My worst memory of being an introvert in that school is compliments day. We did this every year at school. The point of it was to let the kids tell each other that they appreciate each other by giving compliments. The fact is though that most of my compliments were: “You are quiet” or “You are friendly.”

I don’t think they realised being called quiet wasn’t a compliment for me, but a workpoint. I heard whole my life that I was too shy, too quiet and that I should talk more. And that experience was really painfull because it felt like nobody understood me and nobody appreciated me or even knew me. And the saddest thing about this; I have tons of experiences exactly like that.

When I stumbled across this book “Quiet: The power of introverts in a world that can’t stop talking” by Susan Cain, I knew I had to read it. And honestly I am glad I did. I recognised myself a lot in it. And even though some points of the book didn’t really interest me that much and about others I would have liked a bit more information, I do want to give this book such a high rating. I feel like everyone has to read this. If the people in my environment had read this when I was younger, they maybe would’ve understand me better.

So yes, I highly recommend “Quiet” by Susan Cain to every one, young, old, introverts, extroverts, ... It doesn’t matter, just go read it. That way everyone will understand the important message of the book that we do need introverts and extroverts in our society and that there’s nothing wrong with being a quiet person.
