What a wonderful summery feel-good!
In Sailing into you, we follow Abby and Daniel. Abby, recently divorced, is temporarily living on her sailboat. Daniel is a single dad, raising his eight-year-old daughter Floortje.
Before setting off on a sailing trip through Friesland with her dog Bowie, hoping to clear her head after breaking up with her fiancé, Abby takes on a temporary job as sailing instructor for children at the marina. On her very first day, she gets into an argument with Daniel, whose daughter is one of her students. Needless to say, it’s not the best start one can imagine.
When Abby finally sets sail, she unexpectedly runs into Daniel and Floortje at her first stop. While Abby isn’t exactly thrilled by the encounter, Floortje is overjoyed to see her again.
Saskia’s engaging writing style makes this book an absolute delight to read. Thanks to the dual POV, we really get to know both Abby and Daniel. Although the story touches on serious topics like the loss of a mother, divorce, and learning to open up to love after trauma, Saskia keeps the tone light, humorous, and heartwarming. And Floortje? She’s an absolute gem, such a sweet, lovable little girl.
There are a few unexpected and dramatic twists, but in the end, almost against all odds, we’re treated to a satisfyingly happy ending. This feel-good novel doesn’t just evoke summer, it is summer. From the sailboat setting to the charming, touristic backdrop, this book radiates sunshine and summer love.
Tropes you’ll find: celebrity vs. civilian, grief, single dad, done-with-love, strangers to lovers, a classic misunderstanding, and of course, a happy ending.
Don’t miss out on this warm, summery feel-good read. Pick it up while the sun is still shining or pop it into your suitcase for a sunny getaway. Either way, it’s the perfect companion for long, lazy summer days.
