Back to Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children
The first book of the 'Wayward Children' series introduced us to Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children and it's students. In the second book of this series Seanan McGuire has written the back story of the students Jack and Jill. I expected in this third book another back story, but chronologically this book takes place after the first one.
“Beneath the Sugar Sky” is a fitting title for this book. It is the adventure of a girl falling out of the sky into the pond of the Home for Wayward Children. She demands to be taken to her mother, to set things right in her own world. Unfortunately her mother has died, as we’ve read about in the first book.
In this book a group of students accompanies her to some other worlds, ending up in a saccharine one where logic is far away an everything is baked.
For me this didn’t work out very well though the book had some nice moments about an overweight girl and a little back story about the mysterious Kade.
Nice read, but not as heart-wrenching good as the previous two books of this series.
