Another beautiful written book

Charisse 27 maart 2021
This is the fourth novella-length book in the “Wayward Children” series, and it’s another prequel. The book tells the story of Lundy, also known as Katherine. Katherine is the daughter of a headmaster which results in not having friends. Katherine has taken refuge in reading books and following the rules, yet she is not entirely content with her life. There is a slight gender-related issue in this book because Katherine thinks that girls have a less interesting life than boys.
The Goblin Market is the place where she feels alive again. The author describes the Goblin Market is a place where every trade has to give ‘fair value’, a concept Katherine, now renamed Lundy, can easily conform to. She befriends another girl, learns about debts, and this friendship ultimately decides her final faith.
Lundy travels between the Goblin Market en her parent’s house, delaying her final decision in which world she wants to live. There are two great adventures during her stay at the Goblin Market, but the author decided not to write about those but instead focusing on the impact they had on Lundy.
Torn between worlds but we already know the outcome of the story; Lundy ends up at Eleanor West's School for Wayward Children. Her journey was bittersweet, and perhaps not fair. But she was sure.
