Lezersrecensie
Fitting conclusion of a great series
In the final book of 'The Last Kingdom series' it will take a huge battle before Uhtred of Bebbanburg can enjoy his last days at his fortress. Torn between King Æthelstan and the pagans of Northumbria and even further north, Uthred must carefully choose which side he's on. King Alfred's dream of an united Englaland seems further than ever.
Bernard Cornwell has a talent for writing exciting tales about lesser known - and in this case almost forgotten - historical facts. Treachery, alliances and especially very likable characters dominate this novel, woven around historical facts. I liked it that this novel had even more 'body' than previous ones.
It's sad that we won't return to the Lord of Bebbanburg, but who knows what Bernard Cornwell's next project will be!
