A very enjoyable romance
Summer in the City seriously surprised me! I finished it in like one day and for me, that’s always a good sign.
Honestly, the beginning didn’t grab me. I found it really weird that Elle hated Parker over just five minutes in a stairwell years ago. It felt a bit over the top. But luckily, it got so much better!
The story ended up being super enjoyable, kind of like watching a great romcom movie, which makes sense, since the premise is about writing a romcom movie. The writing style was very engaging, and I loved following Parker and Elle around NYC.
I absolutely adored Parker. He was sweet, and even though some of his money gestures were over the top, I couldn’t help but enjoy them. I mean, I wouldn’t say no to that many rings! It was really cute to see how crazy he was about Elle.
I also enjoyed the spice. It was sexy and didn't drag on too long.
Elle, on the other hand… I didn’t love her. She came off as rude and ran away every time things didn’t go her way. Her obsession with money was also frustrating. I get wanting to be independent, but a simple thanks to Parker would have sufficed.
And the scene where she gets completely drunk after only two glasses? I rolled my eyes so hard. There’s no way that’s realistic.
All in all, I really did enjoy the book. It became so vivid in my head that I’d love to see it adapted into a movie. I found myself smiling over and over, and the writing style made it a delight to read. If you’re looking for a sweet, quick city romance, this one’s for you.
