Incredible fantasy story
This book was such a hype that you couldn’t avoid it, so my expectations were sky-high. The big question: did it live up to my expectations? Yes and no. I’ll explain.
For my book club, I recently read this book and wow, what a story! We discussed the chapters together on Fable, which made me read much more intentionally and make lots of annotations.
The book is divided into three parts. Part 1 takes place in the “present” and is intense. You’re immediately thrown into a world full of complicated terms. Half the time I barely understood what was going on haha, but in the end everything fell into place.
Just when I was fully immersed, part 2 began, and we went back in time. It took a moment to adjust (because of the completely different storyline), but after a while I was totally hooked. And truly, when I say I love enemies to lovers, this is exactly what I mean. Helena and Ferron (Kaine)… oh my!
Eventually, we get all the answers we’d been craving, and in part 3 we return to the “present.” Unfortunately, that’s where things went a bit downhill for me. Storylines were suddenly rushed, and the ending felt very weak.
That said, did I enjoy it? Absolutely. Was it hard to put the book down? Definitely. Was it sometimes a struggle to keep reading? Also yes. Was it one big emotional tearjerker like people online claim? Not for me.
Oh, and about the trigger warnings. Personally, I didn’t find anything as intense as people online make it out to be, but of course that differs from person to person. So do check them out!
My verdict: an incredible fantasy story and a fantastic enemies-to-lovers romance, but too many pages and a very weak ending.
