Erg spannend!
For my book club, I read Home Before Dark. This was my first time reading something from the horror genre, though it’s also often labeled as a thriller. Whatever the genre, for me, it was a very suspenseful read!
There were several nights when I had to put the book down because I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep otherwise, which is a sign of a great story.
I really enjoyed the dual POV and timeline. You follow both Megan’s story and her father’s, and I found his chapters the most engaging.
The setting, with the haunted house, was really great. It was very interesting because it made me wonder; what the hell is happening over there? Are there really ghosts? Or it is just some fucked up person?
However, there were a few things I didn’t love as much. Some plotlines and themes were left unresolved, and certain events felt a bit vague, unexplained or unrealistic.
Megan wasn’t my favorite main character either; I found her quite naïve, which made it harder for me to feel sympathy for her.
All in all, Home Before Dark is a tense story with plenty of eerie moments, though a few weaker points kept it from being a full five-star read for me. Still, I’ll definitely be picking up another Riley Sager book in the future!
