Boxing demons and interesting backgrounds

If you have been waiting for more backstories, The Third Sin is the book for you! I love the storyline, but I also dislike a lot of choices in this book sadly. Let’s get through the downers first and then end with a positive bang :)

My biggest problem with this book is the fact that it includes: God, the Devil, demons, angels, ghosts, fairy godmothers, mages and now also Greek mythology. It’s getting a bit insane, especially for just one world. This combined with the boatload of characters makes it hard to follow sometimes. I get that with every new book you get used to stuff and will be able to handle new creatures, but it gets overwhelming if you sum it all up. This kind of divided attention I also noticed in the storyline. I love that I get to know more about the ghosts (finally Taylar!) and the tension around Dante’s mom is intense, but that does mean that the Cards of Death are on the back burner for this entire book. Not sure if that’s a bad thing or not, but it felt kind of weird.

I also didn’t like the vagueness surrounding Vicky and Quinn. I like mystery, but this got old for me really fast. I like to get to the point quickly. Quinn’s backstory comes across as an afterthought and overly complicated. His persona embodies quick fixes in my head (with him swooping in and saving the day as an Ex Machina), and he doesn’t really have that strong of a personality of character development.

Like I mentioned in the previous review, I also don’t really feel the need for yet another heterosexual relationship, even though (SPOILERS) D’Maeo and Mona are very cute together. And that’s yet another character that is taking up more of my mental processing capacity. And also Gisella. Even though I really like Maël and D’Maeo as separate characters, Maël plays a very small role in this book, which makes me feel even stronger about whether they could have been just one character. Less is more like I mentioned before. D’Maero’s backstory was a little blurry for me, so I hope I will find out more soon! I love love loved getting to know more about the Shield!!! Cannot stress that enough.

About that positive bang: the boxing matches in The Third Sin are awesome! The fights are always great, but this underground type of thing with new creatures takes it to a whole new level. I’m so excited to see what the next book is about, because that ending… OMG. I love that it’s not a safe choice, and it really got to me! Dang. Keep your chin up, Dante and let’s get back to it!

Also: I'm flying through these books. The writing style is so pleasant I feel like a hot knife sliding through butter. Definitely a must-read series!!!
